Many new families move to Norwell due to the outstanding reputation the Norwell MA schools have. Of the $48 million dollar fiscal 2016 budget, over $23 million goes to the Norwell school district. In 2015, there was a reported 2,258 students in the school district with per student spending estimated at approximately $13,333 for the fiscal year 2013.
The Norwell School District has one High School, one Middle School and two Elementary Schools, the Grace Farrar Cole Elementary School and the William Gould Vinal Elementary School for each side of town. Norwell MA schools offer half and full day Kindergarten. Full day kindergarten is currently on a lottery basis and does require an out of pocket expense by families. Currently, iPads are utilized by grades 4 through 12 and are leased by students. iPads are used by the School District to enhance the learning curriculum through technology. Most grades also utilize Smart Board technology.
Based on the 2015/2016 10th grade MCAS results, Norwell schools were ranked #6 in the entire Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Norwell was #1 in English, #6 in Math, and #13 in Science. And the Boston Business Journal ranked Norwell schools #3 overall based on 10th grade MCAS scores in English, Math and Science for a public school system in the Commonwealth following Dover-Sherborn and Lexington. This is no surprise to the residents who live in Norwell, who have children currently attending Norwell public schools or have had children graduate from Norwell High School and go off to some of the best colleges and universities in the country.
